mind blowing activities for concentration

Main areas of life to improve concentration

1. Healthy diet

You are what you eat. So a healthy diet is directly connected to the improvement of concentration and focus in kids.

sugar– Try to avoid feeding them sugar-rich foods.

Eggs– Try to give them protein-rich foods like meat and eggs.

A large amount of caffeine– Research found that large amounts of caffeine in the form of energy drinks are unhealthy.

Green foods– Research found that Green foods for breakfast develop concentration and focus on kids

Your kid’s growth rate is mainly associated with their diet. You may not know that your child’s cognitive level and functions are mainly governed by micronutrients such as vitamins A, C, D, and E with copper, zinc, iron, and selenium.

If your child eats well, then he or has a better focus on their activities of daily living and their academic and play activities. As parents, you should always pay attention to the diet of your kids rich in micronutrients that will directly impact concentration and focus.

If we select a category of kids who has good concentration and attention span, they are very good at their other social, emotional, and cognitive activities.

2. Routines

Routines should be a fun activity time period. Routines help our brains to practice self-discipline.

Setting a routine is the greatest help for the overall development of your kid. The parents, caregivers, and teachers have a huge responsibility in doing this. Then children will eventually adapt to the good patterns and life cycle.

The best-set routine selection should be very careful and it needs a good understanding of the kid’s normal daily life cycle. If you install a well-addressed routine for the child, it automatically generates the best live performance you expect from them.

Also, routines make a well-prepared attitude to face the targets with a determined focus. So creating routines enhances the sensitive growing process of the children.

3. Providing small tasks

Children usually don’t prefer big tasks with multiple steps. It needs better focus and discipline. They are reluctant to follow a few steps in order. So their biggest interest is to do some simple tasks.

Then try to divide them into manageable tasks. It will vanish their board attitudes when they occupy the big tasks. After the child gets a clear idea of what needs to be done.

The best way to work with kids is to break down a big task into simple steps and let them do those simple tasks with the intention of a well-known end result ( output ). If you can put a deadline to do the task, the activity will be much more beneficial to the kid.

This activity breakdown into simple steps will awaken the motivation towards a determined activity completion. So this method is another best option for developing concentration and focus.

4. Maintain academic-non-academic activity ratio

As part of the daily routine, it is advisable to increase non-academic approaches to the kids. Recreational activities, games, remedial activities like puzzles and quizzes, painting, and crafting can be considered non-academic approaches. These will restore the focus ability of your child.

You can give 3 non-academic activities to a single academic activity. It will maximize the active participation of the child and eventually improve problem-solving ability. This will prevent the exhaustion of doing academic skills.

If you can mention these non-academic practices while the child is in academic activities, it will improve their productivity and concentration on the academic front.

5. Maintain time gaps between two tasks

If a kid is doing a task that he loves, he probably is reluctant to go to another task. You can select an academic and non-academic activity at a time and try to mention the two tasks and tell the child about the given time gap to complete the two tasks. This is another way to improve concentration.

Doing academic homework continuously can make them lose their concentration. So this time gap method is a good method

6. Avoid distractions or minimize them

Normally children are distracted very easily. Reducing or totally eradicating distraction is very important in improving concentration and focus. Sometimes parents can not remove all the distractions.

Instead try to teach your kid slowly, how to refocus on a task when he/she became distracted. Both visual and auditory distractions should be cut off. So avoiding TV, music and loud noises is the main thing.

Always parents or carers need to audit those distractions around the environment where the child is working and take relevant steps to eliminate them.

You can give them a short break with snacks or what they love and restart work or ask the child to close his/her eyes and take a deep breath and hold and release for a few times. Those simple tactics will enhance concentration a lot.

7. Take a rest

Giving ample rest every day is important for kids. This includes healthy sleep at night and additional sleep in the daytime. To concentrate well on their work the rest-to-work ratio is important.

Plan frequent study breaks for your child to give him a chance to stop the work and get any extra energy.

8. Praising your child

As parents, you must appreciate your child in their daily activities. But be careful in inappropriate appreciation leads the child into attention-seeking behavior and other kinds of wrong directions too.

The praising establishes the self-esteem of the child. So well-motivated child with good self-esteem will complete his given tasks with good focus and concentration. This appreciation should do in a balanced way.

9. Storytelling

Storytelling restores a positive impact on children. My reading listening and comprehension skills also improved a lot.

The child is trying to roleplay when reading a story and connecting with the characters of the story. That will enhance their focusing ability and creativity which leads to improving concentration.

With routines, sometimes children are addicted to the activities of the daily routines. It finds it difficult to accept changes most of the time. These changes might affect the child’s concentration a lot.

So it is advisable to add activity changes by duly informing in advance. If the parents can well prepare their kids for the activity changes in a preferred way, it will create another pathway to improve concentration and focus.

10. Get a professional evaluation of your child

Book an appointment with a pediatrician, occupational therapist, etc. To do a clear assessment regarding the issue of lack of concentration. If you see mild signs in your child, this may be an essential thing to do.

This will sort out the problem with relevant solutions to your child and a continuous re-assessment procedure will show you the progress or any downfalls.

11. Set of activities you can practice

  • Picture puzzles and word puzzles. – you can use boards for pictures and words and use them as a game.
  • Tongue twisters– This stimulates the hearing ability of the kids while they are entertaining
  • Missing number game- Say loudly a sequence of numbers and purposely missed out on one and ask your kid.
  • Beat the clock – Take a stopwatch and a few toys and plan a game. Ask the child to do work during the time period and encourage them to do the task before the time given.
  • Dot puzzles and mazes – Stick dots aboard. printed dots are available in market
  • Three cups and one coin – Place three cups upside down and interchange them with the one coin inside one of a cup and ask the child to select a cup with a coin.

Think of simple activity designs to do with your kids at home. Do not underestimate those as very simple. Those simple steps will connect the blocks of great attention and concentration span within your kids.

Conclusion

Restoring concentration and focus is not a hard thing to do. Converting the ways how to concentrate is a fun thing. It should be done very softly and smoothly without feeling like a hard thing to you as parents or to your kids.

The ability to concentrate among individuals varies by age and developmental levels. So don’t try to compare your kid with others. Their own ways of building are not unique.

If you feel, this is going to be a difficult task, don’t hesitate to get professional assistance from relevant people.

So try to convert this possible task into a joyful thing in everyday life.

Finally, I wish to say, concentration is something like a muscle and it needs regular exercise to strengthen. All kids don’t have the same skills in concentrating on things.

If parents can provide children with more practice and learning strategies, they can find a way to sustain their attention.

This is a kind of important skill for kids to develop. Academic activities, as well as extracurricular activities, needs more attention span for the children. Parents need to think of activities with fun and joy to enhance the concentration of their kids.

  2. As a parent, I am glad to have found your article!
I notice how many children at my childs school and activities just don’t seem to concentrate well.
As expected a healthy diet is key and no surprise that sugar can be a culprit.  The problem for society is how much hidden sugar there is in foods as well as food manufacturers making so much processed, convenient foods for time-poor parents and their children’s lunchboxes.

The other points, are great to read because the teachers of our 4-5yo’s class probably do all these from years of experience.  But now reading them, I can understand them and try actively to implement at home.  I have bookmarked this post and will keep referring to it as I put these things in place.
    Thanks so much!

  3. I found your article extremely useful! Concentration and focus in kids are topics too often misunderstood. I really, really appreciate that you dedicated a whole paragraph to the diet! So many times, I see parents that feed their children with weird food, trying to please them. But a healthy diet is something that MUST be taken into accounts always, no matter the age. It can be the most effective prevention to a lot of illness and diseases and also to issues like the lack of concentration!
